Where I live in Southern British Columbia, new cat ski operations seem to open up almost every year. We get tons of snow in this part of the world and cat skiing allows paying guests to get some of the most epic powder skiing of their lives.
The thing about these places, however, is that they don’t have much business in the Summer time. Until now!
Retallack is not the first cat ski operation to pick up the ball when it comes to maintaining and operating a mountain bike scene. The first one to do it in these parts, as far as I am aware was Baldface, which is also near Nelson BC. Retallack began last year to offer guided mountain biking, and continues this year offering riders epic singletrack mountain biking accessed via trucks and helicopter.
I really hope that this works out for them, and they will continue to offer this amazing back country experience to its guests.
Look forward towards seeing more of British Columbia’s winter cat skiing operations incorporate mountain biking into their summer business plans in the years ahead.
Rumor has it the Fernie’s Island Lake Lodge is working on plans for building some new singletrack to offer guided tours on.
