Welcme to chapter 8 of the IMBA/USFS film abour building mountain bike trails. In this chapter we look at the importance of trail maintenance and restoration.
In my experience, a trail is never “finished” after it has been built. Once established, a trail will always need to be maintained. Hopefully you have built your trail using sustainable practices, as outlined in these video’s and the IMBA Trails Solutions book, as this will ensure that you will have very little maintenance to do. None the less, problems do arise, and it is important to sort them out as early as possible.
Water will be your greatest foe, and this video deals mainly with the effects of water on the trail.
