Chapter 7 in of “Building Mountain Bike Trails” gives us a little insight into adding technical trail features to our trails. The video shows us some ways to safely increase the ability level and excitement of the ride we are building.
There is not very much content again in this video, but it does raise a couple of valuable points. One being the introduction of using trail filters, which are referred to in this video as gateways or qualifiers. Basically, these are sections of a trail that are used to give a preview of what is coming up ahead on the trail. A narrow choke between rocks before a gnarlier rock drop was used as an example. Using the concept of filters is nice for keeping people safe and riding within their own riding abilities.
