The first round of the 2012 UCI World Cup DH just wrapped up in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. It was an exciting afternoon of racing for the men, with home town hero, Greg Minaar taking the win away from Aaron Gwinn. This sets the stage for the rest of the season, making it look like that the other riders in the field are not going to allow Gwinn to dominate as he had in 2011. Rounding out the top five positions for the men were:
- Greg Minaar, South Africa, 3:57.980
- Aaron Gwinn, United States, 3:58.612
- Mick Hannah, Australia, 3:58.974
- Gee Atherton, United Kingdom, 3:59.283
- Steve Smith, Canada, 4:02.364
In the women’s event we saw Mick Hannah’s sister Tracy finish in 1st amidst some tight competition. A great day for the Hannahs! The podium after the ladies race looked like this:
- Tracy Hannah, Australia, 4:33.806
- Manon Carpenter, United Kingdom, 4:34.755
- Emmiline Ragot, France, 4:36.616
- Jill Kintner, United States, 4:42.298
- Miriam Ruchti, Switzerland, 4:44.702
